Mercury

September 9 - September 25

Opening Friday September 9 between 6 - 8 pm

The planet Mercury (so named by the Romans) is
a bright celestial body in rapid transit around the sun. The Greeks associated it with the messenger of the gods, Hermes the evening star, but eventually realised that it was also the morning star, which they had associated with Apollo.

Hermes was the god of translators & interpreters, was the cleverest of the Olympian gods and ruled over wealth, good fortune, commerce, fertility, sleep & thievery. He was also the god of manual arts &
eloquence and the deity of athletes. In addition however, he was a dangerous foe, a trickster & a thief himself.

With such credentials, the guy deserves some respect.
And since photography is to a significant degree a manual art, Mercury might arguably be the god of photography.
